Virginia hat Grünes Licht gegeben und legalisiert Cannabis 2024

Virginia has given the green light and will legalize cannabis in 2024

The latest Cannabis Act only needs to be signed by "the Governor Ralph Northam".

Recently, the Richmond legislature announced it was giving the green light to cannabis legalization. Beginning January 1, 2024, possession of up to 28.3 grams, or one ounce, of marijuana will be legal and state-regulated sales will begin. This makes Virginia the first Southern state to join the other 15 US states and the District of Columbia that have already turned their backs on cannabis prohibition.

Despite all the joy about the historic step, some Democratic MPs criticize the sluggish implementation of the law. It is extremely important to outlaw simple possession of marijuana as soon as possible, in particular to end legal insecurity among all ethnic minority populations who continue to be subjected to police racial profiling.

Since 2020, possession of small amounts of cannabis for personal use is no longer a crime, but can be punished as a misdemeanor with a fine of no more than $25.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia, the new legislation does not go far enough to "break the chains of marijuana prohibition." The Virginia General Assembly failed to legalize cannabis on grounds of racial justice.

In Switzerland you have been allowed to legally since 2016 CBD Cannabis acquire and consume. You can find it in various cannabis head shops, boutiques or online shops, which can be found all over Switzerland.

Various pilot projects will start in Switzerland this year and maybe we will soon see cannabis legalization as a reality here as well.
